Microsoft issues a new version of Microsoft Office every 3 years (approximately). Here is the 'end of life' documentation for Office 2016 for Mac: Search product lifecycle. At the moment, Microsoft has not announced any extended support for the product. End of support means that security and bug fixes will no longer be made. As of September 25, 2017, macOS 10.13 High Sierra is publicly available for all Mac users to install. Office 2016 for Mac is fully supported on High Sierra.
